Freedom is a beautiful evil
I love America. Working at a hotel I meet people from around the world. When they are about to leave to head back home I ask them, "What do you think about America and Americans?"They usually reply that they love the land and what we stand for, but that some Americans are rude and think they are better than the rest of the people around the world. I believe this is one of the reasons we as America are disliked.
We have so much freedom that is it just like the book said, we have the very best because of freedom and we have evil doings because of freedom. It all depends on what the people choose to be and do with their freedom. Because of freedom we are given a lot of opportunities that other countries do not get. Islam use to be number one, now they are far behind and are fighting to catch up and prove themselves as a powerful nation again, but America is in the way. Since we are such a big power it would seem inevitable that we would be a target for other nations. If you can take the big man out you can become that big man. America needs to stay united "United we stand divided we fall." We are united in that we all want our freedom to have our differences. I think it is beautiful, we have a chance to experience so many culture's right here in our home land. If America was ruled under on religion without freedom of any sort, the only way to receive different kinds of culture would to be to visit other nations. That could become very pricy.
I feel blessed and very grateful to be a part of America.
I am an American, my blood is mixed with other nations that my ancestors traveled from I have some connection to other nations but my home is here.

Affect to make an effect...
I was always confused about affect and effect; what is the difference between the two spellings when the mean the same thing? Well I learned from the website http://grammartips.homestead.com/affect.html That affect is the verb while effect is the noun. Of course their are exceptions to every rule but in general that is how it is. An example if this is:
The ball affected that car window, the effect was shattering.
Affect is the action
Effect is the result.

Power...who really has it?
Wow talk about power struggle, while reading Diana Kendall's "Framing Class, Vicarious Living and Conspicuous Consumption" all I could think about was, who really holds power? I have heard over and over again by different people, "The media has so much power." Why is that? Why do we as a society let them form our thoughts on society and how it should be? One part of the reading struck me hard and never really left my thoughts, "...the media socialize us to believe that people in the upper classes are better than we are." So why listen to the media bring the lower socio-economic group bring us down? I know when I lived at home I would listen to my mom and sister gossip about the celebrities and their lives. It drove me crazy, why should I have to know what they are doing? I feel bad for celebrities, but they chose that lifestyle knowing the consequences. Still just becuase they are rich doesn't mean they are better. Ever sense I have left home and stopped listening to what they media says about needing money to be happy and looking up to the wealthy, I have felt better about my life. Sure I need money, but if I can make the essentials work and every now and then go out and have fun I say I am doing as good as the wealthy. I can enjoy the little things when sometimes they miss out because they have to worry about keeping up with looks trends parties, I can enjoy a moment of reading in my pajama's by a fire. Go camping and look at the stars with people I hold dear to me. So do I have power over me? Or does the media still hold power? How much power does the media control you with? Or do you have more power than you think?

To Colour in color...
While writing our breather assignment, I ran into a funny problem. In my poem I want to use the word color. It dawned on me I have see color spelt two different ways. Color and Colour. So which one should I use? Even as I type this when I spell the word "color" it highlights it in red telling me that the spelling is wrong. When I right clicked on it, it suggests the spelling of colour. So I decided to look up the difference in spelling.
According to all that I really found when I looked up the difference betweeen the words on google is the spelling. Other than spelling they mean the same thing. America is the only one who really spells color "C-O-L-O-R" everywhere else it is spelt colour. Has anyone else heard differently?
